HELPING HANDS – FREE LOANS OF WHEELCHAIRS, WALKERS, ETC

Helping Hands Loan Closet – In the basement of the old hospital building

First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) began the loan closet mission several years ago, with a mission of loaning essential home health-care equipment to people who cannot secure it through private insurance or other support organizations. It has grown 70 percent since its inception.

Helping Hands may be a mission of the church, but it is separate from the church. All property and funds belong to Helping Hands and are not part of the church. It is a self-funded ministry with no money from the church used in the project.

At the present time, volunteers from the church staff the loan closet.  "What keeps us going is donations of money and equipment". said volunteer Ron Rominger.

Rominger explained there is no charge for borrowing the equipment, but we do accept donations, both of funds and equipment. However, at this time we don't need any more walkers. We are short on wheelchairs and hospital beds.

Anyone in Jefferson County with a need for a hospital bed, wheelchair, commode, walker or any other type of equipment in stock may borrow the items.

For an appointment to meet a volunteer at the old hospital basement call 641-472-3676,
